PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rico Cole (ranked 2549 p4p, 2770 weight class) and Chicken Destroyer (ranked 314 p4p, 340 weight class). Cole comes to the cage accompanied by Gerardo's Rico Suave. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rico Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 25 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chicken Destroyer!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Joseph Jones and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Destroyer lands a slapping body shot.
Destroyer throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Destroyer tries for a takedown but Cole sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chicken Destroyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Destroyer throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cole wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Destroyer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cole looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Cole is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Destroyer.

My spies in The Factory inform me that Destroyer has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Cole stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cole wants it to stay on the feet.
Cole is looking to counter the offense by Destroyer and move into the clinch.

and Cole connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Destroyer dives in for a single leg takedown but Cole sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Destroyer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cole manages to avoid it.

Destroyer cracks Cole with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Destroyer is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Cole rather than just go for the knockout.

Destroyer doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Cole to counter with a crisp jab.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Chicken Destroyer will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Destroyer looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Chicken Destroyer is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Chicken Destroyer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Destroyer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
