Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Steve Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sebastiaan Weideman!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, David Hoff and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Smith just content to control the position.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Weideman, who protects the arm well.
Weideman avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Smith.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith is staying tight to Weideman's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Smith remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Smith.

Smith seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Weideman for as long as he can get away with.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smith's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Smith shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Smith looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Weideman is breathing heavily.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Weideman is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.

Smith postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Weideman looks a forlorn figure.

Smith looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The referee warns Weideman that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Smith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Smith cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Smith looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith breaks from Weideman's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Smith seems keen to control Weideman's posture.
Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Weideman's guard.

Smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Steve Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Weideman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
