And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 16 wins and 20 losses; Darian Cruz! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Cruz defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Archer. Cruz is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. The fight moves into the clinch position. Cruz lands a takedown into guard.

Archer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cruz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Archer manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cruz's best efforts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cruz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Archer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cruz has Archer in his guard. Archer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Archer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cruz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Archer defends well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Archer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cruz swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cruz looking for a sweep. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Archer is looking for a kimura.
