Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mason Island (ranked 25412 p4p, 24941 weight class) and Bobby Roman (ranked 745 p4p, 764 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Island thinks about countering with a body kick.
Roman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Roman counters with a three punch combo that has Island backing up. Island nods at Roman to acknowledge the strikes.
Roman shoots for a takedown but Island saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Island.
Roman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Island swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Island seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Sloppy strikes from Roman. Those never looked like landing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Island jumps into guard, dragging Roman to the mat.
Island wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Roman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Island is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Roman, into his guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Roman wants to get back to full guard.

Roman flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Island closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Roman tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Roman is trying to stand. He's onto all fours with Island on his back. Island looks like he's slipping off but he's actually tansitioning to a beautiful armbar! Roman has to tap out to a very impressive submission!
