Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sensai Kuragi (ranked 2643 p4p, 2657 weight class) and Daniel Barbosa (ranked 376 p4p, 378 weight class). Daniel Barbosa is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sensai Kuragi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Daniel Barbosa! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kuragi has his takedown stuffed and Barbosa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kuragi seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Barbosa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Barbosa wants to pass the guard but Kuragi is keeping the position. Barbosa trying to control but Kuragi is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Barbosa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kuragi's guard. Kuragi is trying to maintain the position but Barbosa is very close to passing his half guard. Kuragi actively working from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barbosa controlling the action here. Barbosa is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Kuragi keeping moving, preventing Barbosa from controlling successfully. Kuragi definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Barbosa missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Barbosa won't allow Kuragi to sweep him here. Barbosa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Kuragi has his foot on Barbosa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barbosa works his way back into a safe position though. Barbosa pushing down on Kuragi's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Kuragi wants to control but Barbosa is keeping busy.
Kuragi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Barbosa pulls his head out easily. Barbosa content to control rather than advance. Kuragi is pressing down on Barbosa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barbosa advances to half guard. Barbosa is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kuragi sees it coming and defends easily. Kuragi wants to control but Barbosa is keeping busy and won't allow it. Barbosa is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kuragi is just riding it out for now. Barbosa eventually gives up the hold. Kuragi tries to get to full guard but Barbosa has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kuragi wants to control but Barbosa is keeping busy.
Barbosa is keen to just control but Kuragi is a slippery customer. Barbosa wants to work for an arm triangle but Kuragi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kuragi works his way to full guard. Good work. Barbosa passes Kuragi's left leg - he's now in half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kuragi is looking for a sweep. Barbosa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Daniel Barbosa dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Kuragi fails with the takedown. Barbosa drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Kuragi defends it well. Kuragi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kuragi lands in his opponent's guard. Kuragi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Kuragi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kuragi wants to control from the top but Barbosa keeps moving.

Kuragi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barbosa swivels though and keeps the full guard. Barbosa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Barbosa is on top in guard.
Kuragi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Barbosa drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kuragi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barbosa has Kuragi in his guard. Kuragi trying to control but Barbosa is working from the bottom. Barbosa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kuragi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kuragi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kuragi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Barbosa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kuragi is one step ahead there. Kuragi trying to control the position from guard on top but Barbosa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barbosa has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad The Island. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Barbosa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A close second round but Daniel Barbosa will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round! Kuragi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Barbosa shoots in and drives through. Kuragi sprawls well. As Barbosa tries to get set, Kuragi tries to push him back and clinch up but Barbosa manages to avoid the attempt. Kuragi drives through with a takedown into Barbosa's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Barbosa not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kuragi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Barbosa wants to sweep here but Kuragi controlling him for the moment. Sensai Kuragi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kuragi wants to control from the top but Barbosa keeps moving. Kuragi tries to free his leg and advance position but Barbosa is retaining full guard. Kuragi is pushing down on Barbosa's leg trying to pass to half guard. Barbosa is fighting to maintain full guard but Kuragi has managed to sneak the leg through. Kuragi trying to control from Barbosa's half guard. Barbosa has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Daniel Barbosa has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kuragi wants to control from the top but Barbosa keeps moving. Kuragi preventing the sweep. Kuragi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Barbosa tries to get back to half guard but can't. Barbosa is not content to let Kuragi control the position. Kuragi tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barbosa is positioning himself to get back to half guard. You can see the frustration on Barbosa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Kuragi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Barbosa has escaped the position, nice work there. Kuragi wants to control but Barbosa is keeping him busy. Barbosa tries to improve position but can't. Barbosa manages to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Barbosa tries to roll over but Kuragi keeps him under control. Kuragi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Barbosa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kuragi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kuragi's back! Barbosa is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sensai Kuragi. Well Barbosa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
