PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Natanael Domaldsson (ranked 4500 p4p, 4626 weight class) and Aleksei Avagov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Natanael Domaldsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Aleksei Avagov!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Domaldsson smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Avagov swings for the body but Domaldsson moves out of range.
Domaldsson throws a shot to the body.
Avagov takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Domaldsson jabs Avagov to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Natanael Domaldsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Domaldsson throws a body punch but Avagov moves out of range.

Avagov gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Avagov is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Domaldsson can't fight it off and eventually Avagov manages to take the fight to the floor. Domaldsson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Avagov has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Avagov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Domaldsson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Domaldsson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Avagov on the ground.
Avagov chips away with some ground and pound.
Avagov throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Let's hope that Avagov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Avagov pushes down on Domaldsson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Still in half guard, Avagov seems content to control.
Avagov lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Avagov slows the pace down in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Avagov.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Avagov on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Domaldsson jabs Avagov right on the nose. Avagov blinks but takes it well.
Domaldsson throws an off balance right hand

and Avagov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Domaldsson won't be happy with that.
Domaldsson tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Avagov controlling the pace for now.
Avagov breaks from Domaldsson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Aleksei Avagov will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Avagov looking to score a takedown here. Domaldsson is defending well but Avagov drives through and ends up in Domaldsson's guard.
Domaldsson is wriggling around but Avagov manages to pass to half guard.

Avagov moves nicely into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Avagov throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Domaldsson has his hands clasped together but Avagov breaks the hold and Domaldsson is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Avagov!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Aleksei Avagov!
