PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Sigler (ranked 4570 p4p, 24507 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jackson Sigler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz shoots in and drives through. Sigler sprawls well.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sigler but Sigler pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Diaz shoots for a takedown but Sigler saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jackson Sigler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate Diaz.
Diaz takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Sigler tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Diaz swivels and escapes.
Sigler fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sigler displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diaz.
No luck for Sigler with that takedown attempt.
Diaz throws a counter combo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sigler shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Diaz defends it nicely.

Diaz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Diaz tries to break free but Sigler pushes him back against the cage.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Sigler instigates a clinch.
Diaz misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sigler.
Diaz stops a takedown attempt from Sigler.
Sigler jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Diaz walks away with a smile on his face. Sigler gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Diaz feints and as Sigler raises his hands in defense, Diaz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Sigler manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Sigler shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Diaz defends it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Sigler fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.
Sigler has Diaz pressed against the cage, preventing Diaz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Sigler is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Diaz is working for takedown but Sigler is calmly controlling the position for now.
Diaz effectively controlling the action here.

Sigler manages to break the clinch.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Sigler shows good takedown defense.
Diaz avoids a punch combination nicely.

Sigler shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Diaz napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Diaz sneaks out the side door and pushes Sigler away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Diaz gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Diaz dives in and grabs Sigler's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sigler pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.
Sigler feinted with a counter takedown.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Sigler moves out of range.
Diaz throws a right hand that misses
and Sigler counters with a nice uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sigler shoots for a double leg takedown but Diaz sprawls well. He's pushed Sigler's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sigler's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Sigler tries to pull guard but Diaz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Diaz is trying to break free.

Diaz breaks the clinch.

Sigler gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Diaz to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Diaz pushes down on Sigler's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Sigler is defending against the submission attempts here by Diaz.

Diaz wants to work for an arm triangle but Sigler is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jackson Sigler will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Diaz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sigler avoids it really well and circles away.
Diaz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sigler swivels and escapes.

Nate Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sigler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sigler thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The fighters are battling for position here. Diaz manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sigler trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Diaz is trying to keep Sigler in close.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sigler defends well.
Sigler postures up and lands a big shot to Diaz's brow.

Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sigler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diaz is working away from the top position though.
Sigler manages to get to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sigler wants to control the position but Diaz says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Diaz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Diaz is keen to just control but Sigler is a slippery customer.
Diaz tries to pass to full mount but Sigler defends it.
Sigler wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy.
Diaz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sigler is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Diaz scores with a couple of nice shots.

Nate Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

and Diaz counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Sigler is pressed up against the cage. Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sigler down to the mat. Sigler avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Diaz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sigler looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Diaz working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Diaz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Sigler tries to hold on but Diaz postures up.
Diaz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
