PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Logan Cox (ranked 4518 p4p, 6205 weight class) and Filipe Marcal (ranked 417 p4p, 0 weight class). Cox comes to the cage accompanied by Super Gremlin. Filipe Marcal is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Logan Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Filipe Marcal!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cox clinches up against the cage.

Marcal manages to break the clinch.
Cox throws a sloppy body shot
and Marcal counters with a series of strikes. Cox will be more careful next time no doubt.

Cox closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Cox is working for a submission of some sort.
Cox is thwarting Marcal's attempts to control the position.
Ground and pound from Cox.
Cox wants to lay and pray for a moment but Marcal keeps working.
Marcal is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Cox gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Marcal shoots in looking for a takedown but Cox manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Marcal's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Cox moves into the clinch successfully.

Cox throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Marcal gets caught napping as Cox dives in and scores a takedown. Marcal manages to retain guard.

Cox decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Marcal, up you get!

Marcal is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cox throws a head kick that misses.
Marcal shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cox pinned against the cage. Cox gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Cox tries to bum rush Marcal with a series of wild strikes but Marcal uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Cox darts in and clinches Marcal up against the cage.
Marcal fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Logan Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Filipe Marcal.

Marcal manages to break the clinch.
Marcal swinging wildly here.

Cox shoots in and bounces Marcal off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Marcal is looking for a triangle here but Cox uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Cox is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Marcal has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cox scores with a couple of short elbows.

Marcal tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Marcal misses with a takedown attempt - Cox sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Marcal escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That kick from Marcal tenderised Cox's leg. Cox is trying to keep his angry face on.
Marcal moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Cox closes the distance and pushes Marcal back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cox is pulling down on Marcal's head. It's preventing any offense from Marcal, at least for the moment.
Cox lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marcal has his foot on Cox's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cox works his way back into a safe position though.

Cox stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Marcal to get to his feet.

Cox bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cox works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Cox has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Cox scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Marcal is trying to control but Cox passes into side control!
Cox wants to control but Marcal is keeping him busy.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

A jab lands there for Cox.
Marcal looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Logan Cox is winning the standup battle so far.

Cox closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Marcal is rocked!
Cox wants to control but Marcal is keeping him busy.
Marcal is still in real trouble! Can Cox finish him?
Marcal wants to get back to his feet.
Marcal seems to have recovered his senses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marcal is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Marcal takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Marcal is trying to get back to half guard.

Cox decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Cox wants to land a leg kick but Marcal is out of range.

Cox fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Marcal to the ground. Cox is now in Marcal's guard.
Marcal working a defensive guard but Cox manages to pass into side control anyway.
Cox scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Marcal to see if he's OK.
Cox remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Cox stands up and beckons Marcal to his feet.

Cox rushes Marcal and presses him up against the cage.

Cox's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cox misses with a double jab.
Marcal fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Marcal tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cox defends well and Marcal ends up having to push Cox into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Logan Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Filipe Marcal.

Cox closes the distance and pushes Marcal back into the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cox has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Marcal uses from the top position.
Marcal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cox swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Logan Cox is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

It looks like Filipe Marcal has been cut.

Cox keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cox throws a big counter combination but Marcal scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Cox looking to score a takedown here. Marcal is defending well but Cox drives through and ends up in Marcal's guard.
Cox stands up over Marcal, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cox controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cox's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Marcal is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cox is aware though and is defending well.

Well Cox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
