And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 15 losses; Ruben Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Merel takes the fight into the clinch.

Gracie has picked Merel up - he's going for a ride! Gracie dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Merel is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

My spies in Rivers Edge Gym inform me that Gracie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Gracie uses his free foot to push down on Merel's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Merel.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Merel defends well.
We've been hearing good reports from Merel's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Merel manages to reverse the position and now he's in Gracie's guard. Nice work there by Merel.

Merel is stalling here. Gracie is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Merel seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Gracie has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Merel sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.

Merel drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gracie manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Merel has Gracie in his guard.

Gracie wants to control from the top but Merel keeps moving.

Gracie wins on points by 24 to 11.
