PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Morbid Angel (ranked 3960 p4p, 3602 weight class) and Sargent Slaughter (ranked 137 p4p, 121 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Morbid Angel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sargent Slaughter!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slaughter clinches.
Slaughter has Angel pressed against the cage, preventing Angel from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Slaughter displaying some good clinch control by pressing Angel up against the cage.

Slaughter breaks from the clinch.

Slaughter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Angel to the mat! Angel manages to get full guard.

Slaughter gets to his feet. Angel looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Slaughter shoots in looking for a takedown but Angel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Slaughter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Angel throws a hook but Slaughter blocks it.

Slaughter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Slaughter showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slaughter looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Angel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Angel tries to get out of the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Slaughter in particular looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slaughter wants to pass the guard but Angel is defending well.
Angel definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Slaughter is still trying to improve position.
Slaughter performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Angel won't allow Slaughter to pass to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Slaughter throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Slaughter wants to pass to mount but Angel is defending the position.
Slaughter stalling.

Slaughter is working for a kimura but Angel is defending it quite comfortably.

Slaughter is working for a submission of some sort.
Slaughter sitting and controlling from the half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Slaughter keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Angel.
Morbid Angel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Slaughter gets the takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here as Slaughter stalls from top position.
We've been informed that Slaughter has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Angel is breathing heavily.
The ground and pound from Slaughter seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Angel sneaks out the side door and pushes Slaughter away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sargent Slaughter dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Slaughter closes the distance and clinches.

Slaughter has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Angel regains guard immediately.
Angel keeping moving, preventing Slaughter from controlling successfully.
Slaughter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Slaughter's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slaughter stands up from Angel's guard - Slaughter perhaps looking for a knockout.
Angel works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Angel throws a looping overhand right but Slaughter ducks down to avoid it.
Slaughter is looking for the big counter here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Angel slips a jab and a cross from Slaughter.
Slaughter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Angel misses with a lunging right hand

so Slaughter counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Slaughter slips nicely into half guard.
Slaughter is taking a breather. Angel says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Slaughter is continuing to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Slaughter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Nice strikes from Slaughter there.
Slaughter content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Angel on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Sargent Slaughter has got the better of the ground game so far.

Slaughter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Angel is trying to stand back up but Slaughter is controlling him

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Slaughter stalling.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Angel tries to keep at a distance but Slaughter has taken the fight into the clinch.
Slaughter keeps control of Angel as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Slaughter pulls guard successfully.
Slaughter pulls Angel in close to his closed guard and prevents Angel from doing any damage or advancing position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slaughter striking from his own guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sargent Slaughter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Slaughter bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Angel tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Slaughter cracks Angel with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Angel from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Angel wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Slaughter biding his time, controlling Angel.

Slaughter is looking for the choke from the back position but Angel is controlling his hands well.

Slaughter is riding his opponent, not letting Angel buck him off.
Morbid Angel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Slaughter looking for the choke but no joy.
Slaughter thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slaughter lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Slaughter is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Slaughter throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Angel!
Angel grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

Slaughter looking for the choke but no joy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sargent Slaughter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Slaughter winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
