Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Drogo (ranked 4647 p4p, 5625 weight class) and Pike Merry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Viktor Drogo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pike Merry!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drogo clinches with his opponent.
Merry looking to stall.
Drogo wants to stall.
Drogo leaning his opponent against the cage.
Drogo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Merry wants to clinch up but Drogo keeps it at a distance.
Merry fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Drogo looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Merry works Drogo's body with a nice hook.
Merry wants to clinch.
Drogo wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Merry scores with a decent looking hook.
Viktor Drogo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Drogo lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
It looks like Pike Merry has been cut.
Merry tries to clinch up.
Merry changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Drogo tries to avoid it but Merry manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Drogo to the ground. Drogo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Merry stuffs the takedown.
Drogo throws a sloppy head kick and Merry moves out of range easily.

Merry escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Drogo misses with a takedown attempt - Merry sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Viktor Drogo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Merry fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Drogo on the side of the head.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Drogo throws a head kick but Merry moves out of range.
Drogo is breathing heavily.
Merry thows a left - swing and a miss!

Merry lands a really nice looking cross but Drogo seems unphased.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Drogo is defended easily by Merry.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Merry! But no joy.
Drogo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Merry's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A decent looking cross lands there for Merry.
Drogo blocks a jab.
Merry throws a looping overhand right but Drogo ducks down to avoid it.
Drogo feinted with a counter takedown.
Merry misses with the combination.
Drogo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Drogo takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Merry scores with a jab. Drogo acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Drogo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Drogo shoots in for a takedown but Merry shows good takedown defense.
Drogo throws the left hand but Merry avoids the punch easily.
Merry walks into a jab.

Drogo loads up on a big right hand but Merry slips the punch.
Merry checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Merry scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Merry fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Drogo has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Drogo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Merry counters with a nice low kick that buckles Drogo's knee momentarily.
Merry throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Merry lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Drogo is rocked!
Merry cracks Drogo with a left hook right on the temple and Drogo goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Merry lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Drogo is OK!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Pike Merry!
