Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Ray (ranked 4713 p4p, 4740 weight class) and Hugh Groughen (ranked 0 p4p, 557 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robbie Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hugh Groughen!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Groughen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ray lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Groughen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ray circles away.
Ray throws a big counter combination but Groughen scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Ray tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Groughen is able to avoid easily.
Ray misses with the combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ray feints a jab promting Groughen to slip. Ray then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Groughen slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Ray slaps away a takedown attempt from Groughen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
As Groughen looks to move away, Ray throws a big counter combo but Groughen just gets out of the way.
Ray fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ray throws a leg kick but Groughen moved away.
Ray defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Groughen.
Robbie Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hugh Groughen.
Groughen shoots for a double leg takedown but Ray sprawls well. He's pushed Groughen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ray feints a jab promting Groughen to slip. Ray then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Groughen slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Ray lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Groughen circles away quickly and effectively.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And Groughen responds with a good body kick, but Ray manages to step out the way in time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Groughen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ray's efforts to push away.
Groughen misses with a punch to the body.
Groughen jumps guard but Ray stands there with Groughen around his waist. Groughen gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ray is looking to control Groughen's arms but Groughen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ray has his back to the cage.

Ray prevents a takedown attempt there.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Groughen gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ray regains guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Ray manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ray stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ray wants it to stay on the feet.

Groughen gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

Ray stalks Groughen and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Groughen's face. Groughen staggers backwards, shaken.
Groughen misses with a takedown attempt - Ray sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ray misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ray lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Groughen stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Ray.
Ray throws a combination. Groughen tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Ray moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Ray fails to land with a series of punches.
Robbie Ray is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Groughen dives in and grabs Ray's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ray pushes down on Groughen's head and hops out.

Groughen decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Groughen lands strikes from half guard.
Groughen drops an elbow to the side of Ray's head.
Groughen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ray is rocked!

Ray is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Groughen scores with a couple of nice shots.
Oh Ray is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Groughen lands a big elbow - Ray is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Groughen!
