The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Thompson is looking to work some ground and pound but Mesquita has wrist control.
Mesquita escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Thompson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mesquita has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Thompson connects with a nice short shot to Mesquita's temple.

Thompson is looking to advance position but Mesquita won't allow it.
Thompson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mesquita on the ground.
Thompson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Mesquita tries to roll over but Thompson keeps him under control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Thompson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Thompson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mesquita is looking to improve his position.

Mesquita is looking to control Thompson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mesquita avoid being mounted?
Thompson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's time! Thompson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Mesquita tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Thompson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Thompson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mesquita bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thompson's guard.
Mesquita drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Thompson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mesquita has Thompson in his guard.
Thompson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Thompson gets to his feet and stands over Mesquita, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Mesquita felt that one! Thompson unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Mesquita from any more punishment!
