Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuki Takeda! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 9 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, William OConnor! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! OConnor defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Takeda. OConnor takes one to the side of the head.
Takeda tries to score a power double leg takedown but OConnor sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Takeda somewhat. Takeda cracks a nice hook into OConnor's ribs. OConnor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Takeda. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Takeda avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Good exchange - Takeda coming out on top.
It looks like William OConnor has been cut. Takeda looks to land a left hand but OConnor moved out of range nicely. OConnor steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Takeda. OConnor gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Takeda gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kazuki Takeda! Kazuki Takeda retains his middleweight title! An out of breath Kazuki Takeda thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
