Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James McGuire (ranked 4061 p4p, 2920 weight class) and Jason Dawkins (ranked 511 p4p, 388 weight class). McGuire comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica - Enter Sandman . James McGuire has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 20 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James McGuire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Dawkins!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Dawkins misses its intended target.
Dawkins cracks McGuire with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
We've been told by McGuire's head coaches at The Factory that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Dawkins connects with a looping right hand.
McGuire throws out a loose jab but Dawkins uses good head movement to avoid it.
McGuire walks into a stiff left hand from Dawkins.
Dawkins throws a jab when McGuire was well out of range.
McGuire throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Dawkins stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
McGuire comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Dawkins takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Dawkins sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Dawkins looks winded!

McGuire lands a big uppercut and Dawkins crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Dawkins looks OK. McGuire waves Dawkins back to his feet!

Dawkins is rocked!

It looks like Jason Dawkins has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McGuire gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

McGuire jumps guard and drags Dawkins to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Dawkins prevents McGuire from getting back to his feet.
Dawkins working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of McGuire's head.
Dawkins stops McGuire from standing up.
Dawkins must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

McGuire looking for a guillotine here but Dawkins defends easily.

McGuire has his foot on Dawkins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dawkins works his way back into a safe position though.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dawkins accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McGuire working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dawkins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dawkins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Dawkins stands up over McGuire, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

McGuire is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dawkins drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McGuire dives on top into guard.

Dawkins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dawkins controls McGuire momentarily but McGuire frees himself.
Dawkins wants to sweep here but McGuire controlling him for the moment.

McGuire wants to stand but Dawkins is controlling his posture from full guard.

McGuire trying to control the position from guard on top but Dawkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dawkins is looking for a triangle but McGuire pushes his legs off easily.
McGuire tries to stand but Dawkins is controlling from the bottom.
Dawkins has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McGuire scoring with some ground and pound.

McGuire wants to stand but Dawkins is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
McGuire misses with a body kick.
Dawkins takes one to the chin there.
McGuire throws a sloppy head kick
and Dawkins counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Dawkins scores with a jab to the head.
McGuire is looking to clinch but Dawkins is avoiding it.
McGuire takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A telegraphed right hand from Dawkins misses the target.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

James McGuire dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jason Dawkins's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

McGuire has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from McGuire there as he acknowledges the shot.
Dawkins throws a series of punches but McGuire moves out of range.
McGuire throws a leg kick that is checked
and McGuire takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Dawkins on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Dawkins cracks McGuire with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

McGuire lands a big right hand that sends Dawkins crashing to the mat! McGuire stays standing though and waves Dawkins back to his feet!
Dawkins is still on wobbly legs! Can McGuire finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McGuire fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Dawkins looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
McGuire finds Dawkins's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Dawkins flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. McGuire lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Dawkins will be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James McGuire!
James McGuire gave a mention to Velocity Fightwear in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
