PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Jomoney (ranked 1511 p4p, 2145 weight class) and Benny Figg (ranked 207 p4p, 282 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Figg's choice of entrance music: Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive. Ivan Jomoney looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Benny Figg!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jomoney misses with a right hand
and Figg counters with a straight right hand.
Figg misses with a head kick.
Jomoney definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Jomoney cracks Figg with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Jomoney throws a hook to the side of Figg's head but Figg sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

so Jomoney counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jomoney stands up over Figg, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Figg has control of Jomoney's left arm, preventing Jomoney from doing any damage.

Jomoney got a little sloppy there for a moment and Figg has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jomoney has managed to get both his arms back between Figg's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jomoney throws a strike but Figg rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jomoney uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Figg with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Jomoney to score with a decent uppercut.
Figg uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jomoney.

It looked like Jomoney was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Jomoney feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Figgs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Jomoney has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Figg finds it's way round the side to connect with Jomoney's head.
Figg has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Jomoney closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Figg did well to prevent Jomoney getting side control.
Jomoney is nestled in close to Figg, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Figg has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jomoney is working away from the top position though.
Jomoney wants to lay and pray for a moment but Figg keeps working.
Figg wants to control but Jomoney is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ivan Jomoney overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jomoney takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Jomoney is trying to control the action in half guard but Figg is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Jomoney is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Figg is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Figg's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Jomoney is holding on here and Figg must be using up a lot of energy. Jomoney has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Figg gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
