Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Thomas (ranked 4730 p4p, 5505 weight class) and Evert Hermans (ranked 166 p4p, 180 weight class). David Thomas has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Thomas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Evert Hermans! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hermans moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Thomas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Hermans slips a jab and a cross from Thomas.

Thomas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
David Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thomas misses with a few strikes there.

so Hermans counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hermans is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Hermans drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hermans jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Hermans controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hermans forces his way into half guard. Thomas's coaches at Cozad MMA Los Angeles have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. Hermans working Thomas over with strikes. Thomas is looking for a sweep. Hermans is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hermans seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Hermans looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Hermans prevents Thomas from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Hermans is taking a breather. Thomas says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Hermans frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Hermans lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
A nice elbow there by Hermans. Thomas tries to reverse the position but Hermans maintains control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hermans controlling his opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thomas is looking to improve his position but Hermans isn't that keen on the idea. Hermans looking to control and managing it successfully. Hermans raining down shots from the mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Thomas can't escape the position.
Hermans sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Thomas tries to lock up and control but Hermans gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Thomas is looking to improve his position but Hermans isn't that keen on the idea. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hermans scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Thomas?
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Evert Hermans dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Hermans showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Thomas.
Thomas throws a right and a left that Hermans avoids nicely. Hermans missing with a left hand there. Thomas was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Hermans dodges the punch combination from Thomas.
Hermans rushes Thomas and presses him up against the cage. Hermans has clasped his hands together around Thomas's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Hermans tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Evert Hermans has got the better of the ground game so far. Thomas wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas is trying to improve his position. Thomas is trying to control Hermans's posture but Hermans avoids it. Thomas is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hermans tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Hermans decides to stand up, so the ref orders Thomas to his feet. Thomas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thomas throws a right hand that Hermans ducks under and follows up with a left that Hermans also avoids with ease. Thomas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Hermans moves into the clinch. Hermans breaks from the clinch.

and Hermans counters with a nice double leg into side control. Thomas won't be happy with that.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas is looking for a sweep. You can see the frustration on Thomas's face as Hermans controls the position. Thomas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hermans on the ground. Thomas tries to bench press Hermans off him but Hermans keeps the position. Hermans has hold of Thomas's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Thomas seems comfortable defending it but Hermans has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Thomas is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Thomas is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Hermans couldn't care less - he's delighted!
