PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Red Crow (ranked 465 p4p, 501 weight class) and Damian Tonon (ranked 65 p4p, 70 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Damian Tonon!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Phil Schofield.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tonon bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Tonon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Crow, who protects the arm well.
Tonon wants to control but Crow is keeping him busy.
Crow prevents Tonon from improving position.
Crow wants to control but Tonon postures up.
Crow prevents Tonon from moving into mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Tonon tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Tonon drops his hands momentarily and Crow takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

and Crow counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Tonon is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Crow tries to sprawl but Tonon drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Tonon is looking to pass Crow's guard but actually Crow recovers to full guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tonon perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Tonon shoots in for a takedown but Crow shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

It looks like Damian Tonon has been cut.
Crow throws a sloppy head kick and Tonon moves out of range easily.
Crow misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tonon is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Tonon looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Crow is fending him off so far but Tonon persists. Nope, Crow circles away and we're back to standing.

Crow throws out a loose jab but Tonon uses good head movement to avoid it.
A chopping leg kick lands by Crow.
Crow moves forwards but Tonon connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Crow looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Tonon shoots in for a double leg but Crow sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Red Crow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damian Tonon.
Crow swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Tonon throws a predictable looking body shot
and Crow counters with a left and a right that stings Tonon.
Red Crow is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A big left from Tonon misses.
Tonon goes for a double leg but Crow avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Crow continues to drive forward.
Crow stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Crow wants it to stay on the feet.
Tonon moves out of range of the leg kick from Crow.
A telegraphed right hand from Crow misses the target.
Crow throws a head kick but Tonon moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Tonon. Crow does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Tonon counters with a shoot takedown. Crow fights it but they end up in guard.
Tonon is looking to pass into half guard but Crow pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Crow is in guard.

Tonon pulls Crow in close to his closed guard and prevents Crow from doing any damage or advancing position.
Crow lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Our spies down at at High Kicks inform us that Tonon has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Tonon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Crow gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crow controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Tonon looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Crow is defending well. Tonon quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Crow has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Tonon celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

After the fight, Damian Tonon was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
