Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Silva (ranked 1723 p4p, 3145 weight class) and Lucas Maia (ranked 248 p4p, 421 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jackson Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lucas Maia!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva shoots in and gets a takedown into Maia's guard.
Maia is trying to keep Silva in close.
Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maia swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maia can do anything to dispel that myth.

Silva is staying active underneath Maia, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Maia is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Silva tries to roll over but Maia keeps him under control.
Maia tries to pass the half guard into mount. Silva knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maia drops back, looking for a kneebar! Silva looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Silva looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Silva!

Silva wants to control but Maia is keeping him busy.

Silva looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maia is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Silva off and has taken his back!

Silva is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
You can see the frustration on Silva's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Silva turns into Maia and is now in his guard.

Silva is looking to take a break and control but Maia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Maia makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Maia.
Maia pulls Silva in to control the position.
Maia looking for a sweep. Not yet Maia, not yet.
Maia is still trying to improve position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Maia controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself.
Maia bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Silva closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Maia to the mat! Maia manages to get full guard.
Maia is wriggling around but Silva manages to pass to half guard.

Maia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.


Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Lucas Maia showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Silva throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Maia tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Silva is in Maia's guard.
Maia is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Silva dives into side control.

Maia tries to control but Silva manages to take his back.
Maia manages to reverse the position and now he's in Silva's guard. Nice work there by Maia.
Maia advances to half guard.
Maia tries to pass the half guard into mount. Silva knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Silva is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Maia is tapping! Great win for Silva!
