PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evan MacMillan (ranked 1806 p4p, 1998 weight class) and Rob Sapo (ranked 266 p4p, 285 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Evan MacMillan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Evan MacMillan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Evan MacMillan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Sapo!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Eddie Farnsworth and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacMillan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sapo pinned against the cage. Sapo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A little jabbing left from Sapo on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

MacMillan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sapo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sapo manages to work his way to half guard, despite MacMillan's best efforts.
Sapo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sapo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with MacMillan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

MacMillan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

MacMillan seems to be looking for submissions.

Sapo is looking for a sweep. MacMillan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

MacMillan is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Sapo still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Sapo has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
MacMillan is trying to get back to half guard.
Check out the look on Sapo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
MacMillan is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sapo connects with a decent elbow.
MacMillan gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Sapo trying to control from half guard but MacMillan is working away.
MacMillan moves into full guard.
MacMillan has momentary wrist control but Sapo slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

MacMillan looking for a sweep. Not yet MacMillan, not yet.

MacMillan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
MacMillan has momentary wrist control but Sapo slips an elbow through the middle.
MacMillan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sapo manages to get himself to full guard.

MacMillan trying to move into half guard but instead Sapo has managed to sweep!

MacMillan wants to sweep but no luck.
Sapo advances to half guard.
Sapo slips a nice elbow through MacMillan's hands, connecting with MacMillan's forehead.
Sapo lands with a punch from half guard.

MacMillan gets back to full guard.

MacMillan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sapo defends it easily.
Sapo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

MacMillan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sapo trying to control but MacMillan is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

MacMillan looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Sapo has picked MacMillan up and slammed him! MacMillan can't keep hold of the triangle and Sapo manages to pass to side control!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rob Sapo will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Sapo lands a left and a right that send MacMillan crashing to the mat, dazed. Sapo thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Evan MacMillan has been cut.
Nice uppercut lands for Sapo. That snapped MacMillan's head back.
Sapo misses with an uppercut.

Sapo lands a big right hand that sends MacMillan crashing to the mat! Sapo stays standing though and waves MacMillan back to his feet!

MacMillan is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sapo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but MacMillan manages to avoid it.
MacMillan is looking for a counter combo.
Oh MacMillan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sapo lands with a right and another and another! MacMillan is in big trouble! Sapo lands again and this time it's lights out for MacMillan! A quality knockout there for Sapo.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Rob Sapo!
During a confident post fight interview, Rob Sapo thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
