PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dick Niaz (ranked 25378 p4p, 5998 weight class) and Bengt Chao (ranked 543 p4p, 479 weight class). Chao has chosen Sacrifice as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dick Niaz !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bengt Chao!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chao wants to clinch.

Niaz has Chao up against the cage in a clinch.
Chao tries to break free but Niaz pushes him back against the cage.

Chao wants to clinch up but Niaz keeps it at a distance.
It looked like Niaz was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
We've been informed that Chao has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Niaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Niaz postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Chao really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Niaz . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Chao is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Niaz has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Niaz has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Niaz closes the distance and pushes Chao back into the cage.
Chao throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Niaz blocks it with crossed arms.

Niaz 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Chao slips a jab and a cross from Niaz .

Niaz keeps control of Chao as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Niaz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Niaz darts in and clinches Chao up against the cage.

Niaz manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Chao won't allow Niaz to sweep him here.
Niaz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Chao manages to get himself to full guard.

Niaz postures up in Chao's guard and throws a big left but Chao blocks it.
Niaz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Chao wants to stand and escape but Niaz is having none of it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chao is wriggling around but Niaz manages to pass to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Niaz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Chao is looking to escape.
Niaz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Niaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Niaz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Chao is trying to stand back up but Niaz is controlling him

Niaz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chao's head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Chao gets caught flat footed, as Niaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Niaz stands and throws Chao's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Niaz throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Niaz tries to score with some ground and pound. Chao controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Chao wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Niaz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Niaz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Niaz is looking to take a break and control but Chao is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chao dodges the ground and pound from Niaz .

Niaz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chao is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Chao is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Niaz has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Chao gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
The referee warns Chao that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Chao takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Chao trying desperately to get to his feet.
Niaz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Niaz working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Chao turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Niaz off and cradles Chao's limp body as Niaz celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Dick Niaz !
