PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Obi Ojo (ranked 997 p4p, 1913 weight class) and Brock Karelin (ranked 158 p4p, 276 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Obi Ojo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brock Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karelin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ojo's guard.
Ojo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Karelin lands a couple of digs.

Karelin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ojo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Karelin scoring with some ground and pound.
Karelin trying to control but Ojo is working from the bottom.
Ojo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karelin on the ground.
Karelin stopping the sweep attempt from Ojo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Karelin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Karelin sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Karelin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Karelin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Ojo is controlling Karelin's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karelin content to stall in guard here.
Karelin postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Ojo working a defensive guard here.
Karelin throwing strikes from guard but Ojo blocks nicely.
Karelin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Karelin chips away with some ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Karelin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Ojo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Karelin passes Ojo's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Karelin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ojo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Karelin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ojo's head.
My spies in HB Training center inform me that Karelin has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Karelin working over Ojo with some ground and pound. Ojo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Ojo is holding on to half guard well.
Karelin scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Karelin winds up and cracks Ojo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Karelin wants to pass to mount but Ojo is defending the position.
Ojo has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Karelin seems to be looking for submissions.

Karelin is working for a kimura but Ojo is defending it quite comfortably.
Ojo wants to get back to full guard.
Karelin drops an elbow to the side of Ojo's head.

Karelin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Karelin stalling.
Karelin sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ojo defending well though.
Ojo tries to get to full guard but Karelin has control of the leg.
Ojo is trying to maintain the position but Karelin is very close to passing his half guard.
Karelin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ojo's head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ojo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ojo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ojo tries to get out of the position.

Karelin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ojo is just riding it out for now. Karelin eventually gives up the hold.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Brock Karelin dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

No luck with that takedown attempt from Karelin.

Ojo cracks Karelin with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Karelin looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Ojo finish him?

It looks like Brock Karelin has been cut.
Ojo lands with a shot to the body.
Karelin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ojo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ojo lands with a massive overhand right! Stick a fork in Karelin - he's out cold! Ermm... I think I just mixed my metaphors but yeah... That was a nice KO! Big win for Ojo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Obi Ojo!
Obi Ojo retains his heavyweight title!
A very excited looking Obi Ojo made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
