PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bob Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Jacare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel Jacare!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Jacare jumps guard but Johnson stands there with Jacare around his waist. Jacare gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jacare has Johnson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Johnson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jacare tries to score a body lock takedown but Johnson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Bob Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Jacare.
Johnson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Johnson manages to get to full guard.
Johnson wants to sweep here but Jacare controlling him for the moment.

Johnson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Johnson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jacare!
Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
BOOM! Johnson connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Johnson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jacare manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Johnson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jacare tries to buck Johnson off but Johnson is having none of it.

Jacare wants to control but Johnson postures up.
Johnson is trying to move to mount but Jacare reverses beautifully and ends up in Johnson's guard.

Johnson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Johnson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jacare is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Johnson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jacare's back instead.

Johnson throwing strikes and Jacare squirms under the pressure, ending up mounted.

Johnson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jacare turns into him and now he's in Johnson's guard.
Jacare must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jacare controls the pace.
Johnson wants to sweep here but Jacare controlling him for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jacare tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.
Johnson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Johnson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jacare is surviving well by controlling Johnson's body position as best he can.
Jacare is working to get back to half guard.

Johnson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jacare's face.

Johnson stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Johnson shoots in and bounces Jacare off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Johnson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson is taking a breather. Jacare says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Johnson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Johnson is trying to work for a kimura but Jacare is defending well.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Johnson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jacare should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Johnson stops Jacare from getting back to his feet.
Jacare regains full guard. Nicely done.
Johnson is looking to stand up but Jacare won't let him.
Johnson won't allow Jacare to sweep him here.
Jacare is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Johnson is staying active underneath Jacare, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson gets full guard.

Jacare avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Johnson controls Jacare momentarily but Jacare frees himself.

Johnson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Johnson is looking for a triangle but Jacare pushes his legs off easily.

Johnson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jacare's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jacare's back!

Johnson has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Jacare is defending well but eventually Johnson manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Jacare has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
