PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom James (ranked 3094 p4p, 4719 weight class) and Mrgi The Beast (ranked 418 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mrgi The Beast!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Phil Schofield and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
James wants to clinch.

James gets the takedown into side control.
James tries to stand but The Beast is controlling his head.
James taking a break here but The Beast is having none of it and regains half guard.
The Beast moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James wants to pass the guard but The Beast is keeping the position.

The Beast controlling James's posture.
James prevents The Beast from getting back to his feet.
The Beast lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

James lands a good elbow from the bottom.

James has his foot on The Beast's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. The Beast works his way back into a safe position though.
The Beast wants to stand but James has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The Beast trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The Beast would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as The Beast controls the pace.
The Beast is looking to stand up but James won't let him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The Beast closes the distance and clinches.
James misses with a hook from the clinch.

James tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The Beast should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

James wants to get back to his feet but The Beast is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
James is breathing heavily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The Beast drives through with a takedown into James's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - The Beast has eaten all the pies!
The Beast showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mrgi The Beast dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


The Beast drives through with a takedown into guard.
The Beast has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The Beast wants to get up but he can't break James's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
James pulls The Beast in to control the position.
The Beast is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The Beast passes James's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Mrgi The Beast has got the better of the ground game so far.

The Beast is controlling the pace.
The Beast drops an elbow to the side of James's head.
The Beast looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

The Beast is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James won't allow The Beast to pass to mount.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with The Beast in particular looking to stall.

The Beast is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
James is trying to defend against the ground and pound but The Beast scores with a couple of nice shots.

James is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and The Beast has latched onto it... Big trouble! The Beast pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it James is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from The Beast!
