Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dedrick Havoc! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Super Special! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Special swats away the attempt to clinch by Havoc. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Special scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Havoc tries to clinch but Special moves out of range. Havoc takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Havoc tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A swing and a miss from Special. Havoc closes the distance and clinches. Special looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Special lands a shoulder strike. Havoc is trying to pull guard but Special turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Havoc fails to pull guard.
Havoc is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Special to keep the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dedrick Havoc. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Havoc fails to pull guard.
Special digs a right hand underneath Havoc's ribcage. Havoc let out a lung full of air as it connected. I was talking to Havoc's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Havoc jumps guard and drags Special to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Havoc had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Special defends it easily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Special wants to get up but he can't break Havoc's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Special seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Havoc is looking to cinch up a triangle. Special throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Havoc's body to avoid the submission. Havoc has instead reached around Special's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Havoc arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Dedrick Havoc! Dedrick Havoc retains his middleweight title! During a confident post fight interview, Dedrick Havoc thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
