Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Reuben Kennedy (ranked 2016 p4p, 2051 weight class) and Christiaan Huygens (ranked 291 p4p, 294 weight class). Christiaan Huygens will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Reuben Kennedy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Christiaan Huygens! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Santiago Holmes and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kennedy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Huygens defends it nicely. Huygens scores with the left hand. Kennedy knows he should have avoided that one.
It looks like Reuben Kennedy has been cut. Huygens swings widly with a right hand
and Kennedy counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Kennedy thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Kennedy looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Kennedy is thwarting Huygens's attempts to control the position. Huygens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kennedy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kennedy throwing shots but Huygens is blocking nicely. Kennedy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Huygens's head. Kennedy looks to land a strike but Huygens avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Huygens working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kennedy. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Huygens can do anything to dispel that myth. Huygens keeping moving, preventing Kennedy from controlling successfully. Huygens controlling the position. Huygens preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. We've been hearing good reports from Kennedy's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Kennedy missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Huygens is pulling down on Kennedy's head to control his posture. Kennedy working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Kennedy throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Huygens keeping full guard, as Kennedy tries to pass.

Huygens is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Kennedy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kennedy trying to control but Huygens is working from the bottom. Kennedy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kennedy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Kennedy lands a couple of elbows. Kennedy is looking to work some ground and pound but Huygens has wrist control. Kennedy trying to control but Huygens is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kennedy being controlled here momentarily.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A big left from Huygens misses. Kennedy half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Kennedy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Huygens paws at him with a jab and circles away. Huygens displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kennedy throws out the jab. Kennedy walks into a stiff left hand from Huygens. Kennedy staying out of range there. Kennedy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. A nice side step and Huygens releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Kennedy misses with a lunging right hand

and Huygens counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Huygens throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Nice body punch from Huygens. Kennedy missing with a left hand there. Huygens was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Nice uppercut lands for Huygens. That snapped Kennedy's head back.
Huygens tests Kennedy's chin there with a solid looking shot. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Huygens misses with a looping right.

Kennedy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Huygens.
Kennedy throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Huygens sees it coming and avoids it easily. Sloppy strikes from Huygens. Those never looked like landing. Kennedy seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Good exchange - Huygens coming out on top. Huygens moves out of range of the strikes. Huygens fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Huygens has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kennedy is landing a low percentage of strikes. Huygens fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kennedy looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Huygens jabs Kennedy to the body, keeping him at a distance. Kennedy shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Huygens lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Huygens is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Kennedy had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush. Decent striking displayed by Huygens there.
Kennedy is rocked! Kennedy rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Huygens counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Kennedy out cold! What a finish! Huygens is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!
