And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Eric Barnes! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Radbod Blank and Wagner Zegers.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Gracie gets tackled into the cage by Barnes. Barnes maintains the clinch. Gracie jumps guard.
My spies in Mentor Gym inform me that Barnes has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Barnes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Barnes is aware though and is defending well. Barnes passes Gracie's left leg - he's now in half guard. Barnes tries to pass to full mount but Gracie defends it. Barnes trying to control the action but Gracie is working from the bottom. We've been hearing good reports from Gracie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Gracie controlling the position well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Barnes is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer.

Barnes looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Not this time. Barnes is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Gracie has gone for a leg lock! Barnes slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gracie's guard. Barnes is squirming around, avoiding Gracie's attempts to control the action.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barnes sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Barnes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though. Gracie is looking to advance position but Barnes won't allow it. Barnes trying to control here.
Barnes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gracie's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gracie's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Gracie (9) vs (6) Barnes Barnes keeps control of the position as Gracie tries to break free.
Barnes is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Gracie has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Gracie looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Barnes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Barnes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gracie defends it well. Barnes trying to pass the guard but Gracie defending well.

Barnes tries to pass to full mount but Gracie defends it. Gracie is staying active underneath Barnes, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Gracie has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Barnes. Oh but Gracie has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Barnes goes limp - he's gone! Gracie jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
