PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Karsten Koererlaerer (ranked 3050 p4p, 1946 weight class) and Rocco Damato (ranked 305 p4p, 214 weight class). Damato is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Thunderstruck. Rocco Damato acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Karsten Koererlaerer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rocco Damato!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damato keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Koererlaerer.
Koererlaerer misses with a series of wild punches.
Damato will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Koererlaerer takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Damato shoots in for a double leg but Koererlaerer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Koererlaerer leaves Damato with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Damato lands a jab-cross combination.
Koererlaerer missing with a left hand there. Damato was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Damato has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Koererlaerer is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Damato gets caught flat footed, as Koererlaerer shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Koererlaerer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Damato has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Koererlaerer has managed to get both his arms back between Damato's legs - danger averted.

Damato is looking for a triangle but Koererlaerer pushes his legs off easily.
We've been hearing that Koererlaerer has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Damato can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Koererlaerer controls the pace.

Damato has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Koererlaerer is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Damato.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Damato looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Damato is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Koererlaerer defends it well.

Koererlaerer manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Koererlaerer lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Damato wants to stand and escape but Koererlaerer is having none of it.

Koererlaerer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Damato is trying to defend but Koererlaerer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Koererlaerer is trying to control. Damato wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Karsten Koererlaerer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Damato is looking for a sweep. Koererlaerer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Damato has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Koererlaerer. Oh but Damato has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Koererlaerer goes limp - he's gone! Damato jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Rocco Damato!
An out of breath Rocco Damato thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
