Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between The Don (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pedro Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Don comes to the cage accompanied by Iconoclast. Maia is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Ratamahatta. The Don has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Maia! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia throws a body kick that misses. Maia bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Maia looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Don is looking for a sweep. Don is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Maia asserts his dominance and retains side control. Maia is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Don has escaped the position, nice work there. Don is looking to regain half guard here but Maia keeps moving and retains side control. Maia advances to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Maia is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Don can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Maia is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Don is surviving well by controlling Maia's body position as best he can. Maia looks gassed! Maia trying to control but Don is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maia is standing up, even though he is in mount. Maia circles away from the clinch attempt.
The Don seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Don is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

It looks like Pedro Maia has been cut. Don with a lazy takedown attempt and Maia counters with a nice double leg into guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Don wants to stand up but Maia is controlling him. Maia postures up.
Maia not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Don keeping moving, preventing Maia from controlling successfully. Don not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Maia misses with a takedown attempt and Don counters by moving into the clinch. Don wants to break free but Maia has control.

Don tries to close the distance and clinch up but Maia swats him away and circles back towards the center. Maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Don looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Don is looking to regain half guard here but Maia keeps moving and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Don tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Maia presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Maia landing punches. Don squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Maia dominating with strikes here. Maia tries to control but Don wriggling away. Poor strikes thrown by Maia there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Maia shoots in for a takedown but Don shows good takedown defense. Don misses with a takedown and Maia counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Maia has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Don is trying to keep an underhook but Maia manages to get the takedown into half guard. Maia controlling the action here. Maia prevents Don from improving his position. That's one minute gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Maia connects with a nice short shot to Don's temple. Don avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Maia. Don trying to control but Maia postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Maia stands up from Don's guard - Maia perhaps looking for a knockout. Don throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Don wants to clinch but Maia slips to the side and Maia counters with a left and a right that stings Don. Don tries to clinch up and Maia moves into the clinch. Don wants to break free but Maia has control.

Don is trying to break free. Maia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Don is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Maia blocks an elbow strike. Maia effectively controlling the action here. Don is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Don tries to score a body lock takedown but Maia shows good agility there to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for The Don. That's going to take a lot out of him. Don being controlled against the cage. Don can't get the takedown.
Don jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Maia walks away with a smile on his face. Don gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Don tries to clinch but Maia is having none of it. Maia shoots in for a double leg but Don sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Maia stalks Don and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Don's face. Don staggers backwards, shaken. Don tries to clinch but fails miserably and Maia moves into the clinch. Maia successfully pulls guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Don wants to stand but Maia is controlling his posture from full guard. Maia has his feet on Don's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Don tries to clinch but fails miserably and Maia counters by clinching up. Don has had enough of the clinch but Maia keeps him there for the moment. Maia trying to land knees to the body.
Maia drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Don gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Maia is pressed up against the cage. Don has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Maia down to the mat. Maia avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Excellent takedown into side control there by Maia. Maia has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Don! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Maia takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Maia shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Maia showed some decent athleticism there. Nice strikes from Maia there. Don is trying to stand back up but Maia is controlling him

Pedro Maia has got the better of the ground game so far. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Maia seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Don does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Don trying to control but Maia postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Maia throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Don. Don tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Maia moves into the clinch. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Maia drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Don gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Don looks to throw an elbow but misses. Maia pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Don tries to clinch but Maia moves away and Maia counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Don wants to improve his position but Maia is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Don wants to get back to his feet. Don is refusing to be controlled, as Maia sits in half guard. Don won't allow Maia to pass to mount. Don tries to kick Maia off but Maia keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia content to control rather than advance. Maia is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Don! Maia avoids the attempt from Don to control. Maia wants to take Don's back but he can't do it this time. Maia tries to control but Don wriggling away. Don is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Maia has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Don is forced to tap!
