PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lupon Sanchez (ranked 4605 p4p, 4761 weight class) and Ironclad Ironman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez comes to the cage accompanied by Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lupon Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ironclad Ironman!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ironman.

Ironman throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sanchez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ironman is in Sanchez's guard.

Sanchez pushes Ironman off and scrambles back to his feet.
Sanchez misses with a takedown

and Ironman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Ironman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ironman throws a leg kick that misses.

Ironman clinches with his opponent.

Ironman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sanchez fails to land the takedown.

and Ironman counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ironman as he jumps to the side.

and Ironman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ironman.

Ironman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Ironman closes the distance and clinches.

Ironman pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanchez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sanchez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ironman is pulling down on Sanchez's head to control his posture.
Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Ironman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ironman tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Ironman looking for a guillotine here but Sanchez defends easily.
Ironman wants to get back to his feet but Sanchez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Ironman is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ironman lands with a nice body punch.
Ironman fails with a takedown attempt.

Ironman moves into the clinch.
Ironman jumps guard but Sanchez turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Sanchez has Ironman pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ironman manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Ironman stops a takedown attempt from Sanchez.

Ironman breaks the clinch.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch but Ironman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ironman is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Ironman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sanchez defends well and Ironman ends up having to push Sanchez into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ironman swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Ironman has taken the fight to the clinch.

Ironman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ironman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
And Sanchez counters with a quick kick to the body but Ironman blocks it.
Sanchez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Ironman rushes Sanchez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ironman lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Ironman gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Sanchez regains guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ironclad Ironman dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Ironman shoots in looking for a takedown. Sanchez tries to sprawl out of it but Ironman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sanchez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sanchez lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice takedown defense from Sanchez. No joy for Ironman on that attempt.
Ironman circles away from the clinch attempt.

Ironman gets a clinch.
Sanchez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ironman walks away with a smile on his face. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sanchez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ironman.
Lupon Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ironclad Ironman.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Despite the aggression on Ironman's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Sanchez throws a front kick aimed at Ironman's knee but Ironman avoids it well.
Lupon Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanchez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Ironman counters with a nice body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ironman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ironman is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Sanchez tries to score a body lock takedown but Ironman shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Ironman changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sanchez fights it off and pushes away nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sanchez.
Sanchez on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Ironman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sanchez pinned against the cage. Sanchez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Ironman moves into range and clinches up with Sanchez.

Ironman drags the fight down to the ground.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Ironman keeps moving.
Ironman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Sanchez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ironman's head.
Ironman is looking to stand up but Sanchez isn't so interested in that idea.
Sanchez wants to stand but Ironman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ironman looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ironman can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Ironman looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sanchez taking a breather.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ironman manages to break the clinch.

Sanchez is trying to pull guard but Ironman turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Ironclad Ironman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Sanchez blocks the body kick.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ironman as he jumps to the side.
Ironman shoots in and drives through. Sanchez sprawls well.
A solid leg kick lands there for Ironman.

Ironman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sanchez to the mat! Sanchez manages to get full guard.

Sanchez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ironman is aware though and is defending well.
Ironman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ironman tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanchez is retaining full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ironman stays in close to Sanchez's body and controls the position.
Ironman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ironman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Ironman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sanchez as he avoids it easily.

Ironman tried to score with a low kick but Sanchez checks it.

Ironman pulls guard effortlessly.

Ironman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanchez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ironman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Ironman looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sanchez is one step ahead there.

Sanchez throwing strikes but missing.

Ironman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Ironman is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ironman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanchez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ironman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sanchez swivels and escapes.
Sanchez is looking to counter the offense by Ironman and move into the clinch.
Ironman shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sanchez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Ironman clinches up with Sanchez and pushes him back against the cage.
Ironman drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sanchez pulls his leg out and moves away.
Sanchez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ironman defends well and Sanchez ends up having to push Ironman into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ironclad Ironman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ironman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
