Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mun Soon (ranked 3908 p4p, 4349 weight class) and Kamarudeen Volkanovski (ranked 494 p4p, 539 weight class). Volkanovski has chosen Jiu Jitsu as his entrance music. Kamarudeen Volkanovski acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mun Soon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kamarudeen Volkanovski!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Soon pushes Volkanovski up against the cage in a clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Volkanovski has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Volkanovski throws a punch but it's blocked by Soon.
Volkanovski is trying to force a seperation but Soon has the dominant position.
Soon blocks an elbow strike from Volkanovski.
Soon is pressed up against the cage. Volkanovski has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Soon down to the mat. Soon avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Soon throws a hook to the side of Volkanovski's head but Volkanovski sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Soon gets a clinch.
Soon stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Soon displaying some good clinch control by pressing Volkanovski up against the cage.
Volkanovski jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Soon walks away with a smile on his face. Volkanovski gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Soon moves into the clinch.
Soon effectively controlling the action here.
Volkanovski can't find room to land a body shot as Soon controls the action.

Volkanovski tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Soon just stands there and leans against the cage.
Mun Soon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kamarudeen Volkanovski.
The referee is keeping an eye on Soon - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Soon works on Volkanovski's body with a couple of short punches.

Soon has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Volkanovski tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Soon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Volkanovski.

A jab from Soon finds it's way through Volkanovski's defenses.

Soon rushes Volkanovski and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Volkanovski is trying to pull guard but Soon has him pressed against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Soon takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Soon for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Volkanovski is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Soon is looking to break free of the clinch but Volkanovski has double underhooks.

Soon seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Soon's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Soon lands a body punch in the clinch.

Soon moves into the clinch.
Soon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Volkanovski can do to turn this around?
Soon lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Volkanovski is trying to drag Soon to the mat but Soon just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Soon manages to break the clinch.
Soon throws a jab when Volkanovski was well out of range.

Soon clinches up with Volkanovski and pushes him back against the cage.
Soon lands a left hand that snaps the head of Volkanovski backwards.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters circling - Soon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Soon throws a shot from downtown. Volkanovski moves away and avoids it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Soon cracks Volkanovski with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Volkanovski looks to clinch
and Soon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Soon tries to clinch there but Volkanovski circles away.
Soon tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Volkanovski manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Volkanovski misses with a kick to the body.

Soon drives through and clinches with Volkanovski against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Soon lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Soon thows a left - swing and a miss!

Soon moves into the clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Soon.
Soon makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Soon lands a nice shot to the body.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Soon.

Soon breaks from the clinch.
Soon is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Soon throws a shot from downtown. Volkanovski moves away and avoids it.
Mun Soon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Soon darts in and clinches Volkanovski up against the cage.
Soon blocks an uppercut.
Soon lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Soon taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Volkanovski pulls guard effortlessly.
Volkanovski has a closed guard, preventing Soon from standing up.

Soon trying to control the position from guard on top but Volkanovski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Soon wants to stand but Volkanovski is controlling his posture from full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Soon trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kamarudeen Volkanovski is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Volkanovski shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Soon but Soon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Soon is looking to counter punch.

Soon gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Soon pushes Volkanovski back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Soon blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Soon pushes Volkanovski back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Volkanovski wants to get back to striking at distance but Soon won't allow it.
Kamarudeen Volkanovski has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Soon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
