PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Damyan Rasmussen (ranked 25432 p4p, 4010 weight class) and DJ Perez (ranked 377 p4p, 242 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Damyan Rasmussen has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Damyan Rasmussen seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of The Island, DJ Perez!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rasmussen dives in for a single leg takedown but Perez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Rasmussen trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Perez manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Rasmussen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rasmussen is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perez tries to stand but Rasmussen is controlling his head.

Perez tries for a kimura but Rasmussen is defending well.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rasmussen is looking to reverse the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Rasmussen. No joy for Perez on that attempt.
Rasmussen fails with a takedown attempt.
Perez unleashes a big counter combination but Rasmussen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Perez connects with a high kick.

Perez shoots in but no luck this time.
Rasmussen tries to counter with a takedown but Perez is quick to defend against it.
Rasmussen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Rasmussen tries to close the distance and clinch but Perez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Perez moves into range and clinches up with Rasmussen.

Perez manages to pull guard.
Perez keeping moving, preventing Rasmussen from controlling successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rasmussen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rasmussen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

DJ Perez dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Rasmussen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Perez is fending him off so far but Rasmussen persists. Nope, Perez circles away and we're back to standing.
Rasmussen is looking to clinch but Perez is avoiding it.
Perez throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Rasmussen connects with a single shot there.
Rasmussen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Perez sprawls well. Perez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rasmussen gets slowly back to his feet.
Rasmussen slips a jab and a cross from Perez.
Rasmussen seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck for Perez with that takedown attempt.

Rasmussen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Perez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rasmussen is in Perez's guard.

Perez wants to sweep here but Rasmussen controlling him for the moment.

Rasmussen stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Rasmussen clinches up with Perez and pushes him back against the cage.
Perez wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rasmussen tries to score a body lock takedown but Perez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damyan Rasmussen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rasmussen works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Perez throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Rasmussen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rasmussen wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving.

Perez keeping full guard, as Rasmussen tries to pass.
Perez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Perez has momentary wrist control but Rasmussen slips an elbow through the middle.
Perez can't keep his opponent in guard - Rasmussen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Rasmussen seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Perez is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Damyan Rasmussen!
