PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dado Damba (ranked 1625 p4p, 1222 weight class) and Rasmus Reedtz (ranked 204 p4p, 164 weight class). The key to victory for Dado Damba has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dado Damba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rasmus Reedtz!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damba bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Reedtz's head.
A chopping leg kick lands by Damba.
Damba steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Reedtz.
Damba darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Damba swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Reedtz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Damba sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A nice inside leg kick there by Damba. That's going to slow Reedtz down.
Damba tries to bum rush Reedtz with a series of wild strikes but Reedtz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Reedtz throws out a leg kick but Damba moves out of range and Reedtz only half commits.
Damba gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Good work by Damba as he checks the leg kick.

Reedtz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reedtz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Reedtz stands and throws Damba's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Damba tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Reedtz looks up at the clock and then as Damba takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Reedtz smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Reedtz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Damba does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reedtz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Damba with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Reedtz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Reedtz lands a nice short elbow.
My spies in Rasmus's Fun House inform me that Reedtz has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The crowd cheers as Reedtz lands an impressive looking overhand right. Damba doesn't seem phased though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Damba escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Reedtz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Reedtz shoots in for a takedown but Damba shows good takedown defense.
Damba thuds his right hand into Reedtz's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Damba with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Reedtz to score with a decent uppercut.
Damba throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Reedtz.

enabling Damba to counter with a crisp jab.

It seemed like Reedtz was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Reedtz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Reedtz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Damba tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Reedtz is in Damba's guard.

Reedtz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Damba looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Damba looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Damba!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Damba is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Dado Damba showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Reedtz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
