The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spitler gets caught flat footed, as Lestat shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Lestat will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Spitler looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Lestat slips nicely into half guard. Spitler keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Lestat wants to lay and pray for a moment but Spitler keeps working. Lestat tries to pass to full mount but Spitler defends it. Lestat keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Lestat thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lestat controlling the position easily from mount. Lestat lands a big elbow. Lestat has control of Spitler's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Spitler regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Spitler takes a shot to the head. Lestat's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Lestat moves into range and clinches up with Spitler. Lestat is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Spitler can't fight it off and eventually Lestat manages to take the fight to the floor. Spitler looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Spitler looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Spitler is breathing heavily. Lestat passes easily into side control. Nice work. Lestat dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Lestat seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Lestat passes to side control. Spitler tries to improve position but can't. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lestat is looking to take a break and control but Spitler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Lestat controlling from side mount. Lestat working the body and head with strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Spitler seems a little lost for a moment, as Lestat dominates the positioning. Lestat tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Spitler wants to control but Lestat is keeping busy.
