PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Bronson (ranked 390 p4p, 443 weight class) and Tomomi Tsuruta (ranked 60 p4p, 65 weight class). Bronson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Glass Candy. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Don Bronson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 21 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tomomi Tsuruta!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tsuruta will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bronson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bronson there as he acknowledges the shot.

It looks like Don Bronson has been cut.
Tsuruta misses with a looping left.
Bronson misses with a straight left.
Don Bronson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big left from Tsuruta misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bronson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tsuruta.
Bronson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Bronson scores with a hook.
Bronson misses with a low kick as Tsuruta jumps back.

Tsuruta displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bronson throws out the jab.
It seemed like Tsuruta was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Bronson swings away with a body shot that misses
and Tsuruta connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Tsuruta ducks under a wild hook from Bronson.
A jab from Bronson finds it's way through Tsuruta's defenses.
Bronson bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Tsuruta's head.
Tsuruta throws a series of punches but Bronson moves out of range.
Bronson moves out of range as Tsuruta strikes.
It looked like Bronson was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Tsuruta.

Tsuruta has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Bronson finds it's way round the side to connect with Tsuruta's head.

A looping hook to the body misses from Tsuruta. Bronson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tsuruta gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tsuruta steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Bronson. That one must have hurt.
Tsuruta misses the jab.
It looked like Bronson was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Tsuruta.

Bronson tries to land a front kick but Tsuruta steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Bronson, as that shot connected.
Bronson lands a nice looking body shot.
Bronson lands with an overhand left.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tsuruta moves out of range of the strikes.
Bronson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Bronson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Tsuruta throws out the jab.
Tsuruta takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Bronson looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Bronson lands with a shot to the body.
Tsuruta thuds his right hand into Bronson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Tsuruta throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Bronson counters with a nice body shot.
Bronson slips a jab and a cross from Tsuruta.
Bronson misses the shot to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tsuruta takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A telegraphed right hand from Bronson misses the target.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tsuruta! But no joy.
Bronson tried to score with a low kick but Tsuruta checks it.
A little jabbing left from Tsuruta on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bronson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Tsuruta throws a body punch but Bronson moves out of range.
Tsuruta uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bronson.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tsuruta! But no joy.
Bronson swings for the body but Tsuruta moves out of range.
Tsuruta looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
A combination from Tsuruta does no damage.
Bronson tried to counter with a leg kick but Tsuruta avoided it.
Tsuruta has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Tsuruta there as he acknowledges the shot.
Bronson misses with a low kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Don Bronson's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Tsuruta counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bronson misses with a kick to the body
and Tsuruta counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Tsuruta looks to throw the jab but Bronson is out of range.
Bronson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Bronson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tsuruta sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A low kick lands for Bronson.
Bronson feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Tsurutas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Tsuruta throws out a loose jab but Bronson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bronson connects with a body shot that sends Tsuruta's belly button to the back.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with each other but Tsuruta might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Bronson has got the better of the exchanges.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A jab lands there for Bronson.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Tsuruta in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Bronson throws a body shot but no joy.

Bronson drops Tsuruta with a beautiful combination! Tsuruta stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Bronson is looking for the KO!

Tsuruta is still on wobbly legs! Can Bronson finish him?
Bronson dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tsuruta. That did some damage!
Tsuruta seems to have recovered his senses.
Tsuruta walks straight into a right hand from Bronson - that's dropped him! Bronson jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Tsuruta from any more punishment! Tsuruta complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Don Bronson!
During a confident post fight interview, Don Bronson thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
