Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Drillus Erickson (ranked 4634 p4p, 4624 weight class) and Eberhard Kovac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Drillus Erickson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Eberhard Kovac!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Erickson throws a sloppy head kick and Kovac moves out of range easily.

Erickson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kovac's half guard.

Erickson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Erickson seems to be looking for submissions.
Kovac avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Erickson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kovac looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Erickson tries to clinch but Kovac moves out of range.

Erickson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kovac on his heels. He'll look to pass Kovac's guard now, I'm sure.

Kovac has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Erickson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Kovac tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kovac tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Erickson avoids it.
Kovac is looking to control Erickson's arms but Erickson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Kovac has his back to the cage.

Kovac manages to break the clinch.

Kovac throws a one two combo.
Erickson avoids a punch combination nicely.
The fighters circling - Erickson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Kovac tries to clinch there but Erickson circles away.
Erickson is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Kovac shoots in but Erickson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
It appears Erickson was looking to counter with a kick there.
Erickson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Drillus Erickson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eberhard Kovac.
Kovac shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Erickson sprawls well. Erickson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kovac gets slowly back to his feet.

Kovac gets caught napping as Erickson dives in and scores a takedown. Kovac manages to retain guard.

Erickson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kovac is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kovac has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close round but I would say that Drillus Erickson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Erickson wants to clinch.
Kovac is looking for the big counter here.
Kovac ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Erickson moves away.
Kovac scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Erickson doesn't seem bothered though.
Kovac tries for a takedown but Erickson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Erickson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Erickson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kovac.

Erickson darts in and clinches Kovac up against the cage.

Kovac pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Drillus Erickson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eberhard Kovac.

Erickson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kovac tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Erickson is in Kovac's guard.
Erickson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Erickson is fighting to break Kovac's control of his arms but Kovac is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Erickson pushes down on Kovac's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Erickson is trying to work for a kimura but Kovac is defending well.
Erickson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Erickson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Erickson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kovac looks a forlorn figure.
Kovac wants to hold on but Erickson pushes him away.

Erickson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Erickson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kovac is looking to escape.
Erickson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kovac can do to turn this around?
Kovac is just holding on here. Erickson manages to take his back.
Kovac trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Erickson has good solid back control here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Erickson has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Kovac.

That's time! Erickson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Horrible takedown attempt by Kovac or perhaps it was just good defense by Erickson, which made it look bad.
Erickson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kovac paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kovac connects with a good right hand that stumbles Erickson. Erickson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Kovac misses with a takedown attempt - Erickson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Erickson rushes Kovac and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kovac keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Erickson's efforts to push away.

Kovac wants to hit a sweep here but Erickson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Kovac there!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Erickson wants to finish this one by submission but Kovac is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Erickson.

Erickson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kovac turns into him and now he's in Erickson's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Erickson looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Erickson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kovac trying to control but Erickson is working from the bottom.

Kovac is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kovac throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kovac shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Erickson as he jumps to the side.
Erickson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Drillus Erickson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eberhard Kovac.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Erickson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Eberhard Kovac has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Drillus Erickson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Erickson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
