PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Jones (ranked 2591 p4p, 2670 weight class) and Eric Draven (ranked 332 p4p, 338 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eric Draven!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Draven misses with an uppercut. Jones saw that one coming.
Draven closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Draven digs a good body shot into Jones's ribs.
Jones pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A little jabbing left from Draven on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jones misses with an uppercut
and Draven counters with a nice uppercut.
Draven throws a leg kick which misses Jones's front leg but catches the back leg as Jones tries to avoid it.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jones swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Draven counters with a nice low kick that buckles Jones's knee momentarily.
Jones looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A chopping leg kick lands by Draven.
Draven throws a wild body kick that Jones sees coming a mile off.
Draven misses with a straight left.
Draven throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it.
Jones throws the left hand but Draven avoids the punch easily.
Draven punishes Jones's body with a nice straight punch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Draven thuds his shin into the meat of Jones's side.
A slapping leg kick lands for Draven.
Jones with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Draven to score with a decent uppercut.
Jones throws a hook to the side of Draven's head but Draven sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jones fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Draven pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Draven is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Draven gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Draven lands an elbow that stopped Jones in his tracks for a moment.

It looks like Kevin Jones has been cut.

Draven is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.

Jones is keen to just control but Draven is a slippery customer.

Draven had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones defends it easily.

Draven is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones drops back, looking for a kneebar! Draven looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Draven looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Draven!

Draven is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jones is looking to reverse the position.

Draven wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
Jones stops Draven from passing to mount.
Jones tries to buck Draven off but Draven is having none of it.

Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Draven wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Jones is looking to clinch.

Draven lands with a nice body kick.
Draven connects with a crisp jab.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jones content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Draven is positioning himself well to prevent Jones advancing to mount.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Draven defends it well.
Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Draven knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Draven tries to roll over but Jones keeps him under control.

Jones is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Draven is just riding it out for now. Jones eventually gives up the hold.
Jones moves nicely into side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jones in side control, throwing shots but Draven defends.
Draven is not content to let Jones control the position.
Jones creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Draven sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Jones remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kevin Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Draven is on top in guard.

Draven is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Draven's guard.

Jones connects with a good right hand that stumbles Draven. Draven circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Draven sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jones loads up on a big right hand but Draven slips the punch.
Draven lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
The fighters circling - Draven throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and Jones counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Draven fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Jones has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Jones throws a strike aimed at the side of Draven's head but Draven avoids it well.
Draven tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Jones tries to move to mount but Draven blocks the move with his legs.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

I think Draven has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
