PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nickolas Diaz (ranked 4678 p4p, 4625 weight class) and Rodrigo Bibirano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Gangsta's Paradise. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nickolas Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rodrigo Bibirano!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bibirano displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diaz.
Bibirano tries to bum rush Diaz with a series of wild strikes but Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diaz dives in and grabs Bibirano's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bibirano pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.
Diaz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bibirano tries to avoid it but Diaz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bibirano to the ground. Bibirano escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bibirano looks like he wants to counter punch here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nickolas Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice takedown defense from Bibirano. No joy for Diaz on that attempt.
Bibirano keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bibirano's waist but Bibirano gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bibirano as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bibirano sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Diaz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bibirano throws out a counter right but Diaz avoids it with no problem.
Diaz darts in looking for a takedown but Bibirano gets double underhooks and turns Diaz into the cage.
Diaz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Diaz is breathing heavily.
Bibirano prevents the takedown attempt.

Bibirano gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Diaz.
Diaz jumps guard but Bibirano stands there with Diaz around his waist. Diaz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Diaz fails to pull guard.

Bibirano successfully pulls guard.
Bibirano bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diaz's guard.

Bibirano wants to pass the guard but Diaz is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bibirano controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Diaz can't keep his opponent in guard - Bibirano advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bibirano tries to pass to full mount but Diaz defends it.
Bibirano not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Bibirano looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bibirano works his way into side control.
Bibirano controls the position from side control.

Bibirano is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Diaz is trying to escape and Bibirano transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Diaz is forced to tap! Nice work there by Bibirano! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rodrigo Bibirano!
Rodrigo Bibirano decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Nickolas Diaz spoke after the fight, saying 'Im not trying to hate on nobody. I love everybody that works towards what I was working towards. It's a hard game, it's a hard life'.
