The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Some wild striking there from Smith.
Mendez is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Smith with a body shot.
Mendez looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Smith is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mendez defends well.
Mendez postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Mendez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith has momentary wrist control but Mendez slips an elbow through the middle.

Mendez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
