Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Saddam Hussain! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Canuto! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hussain clobbers Canuto with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Hussain wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Canuto shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Hussain scores with a jab. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Canuto shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hussain is trying to defend but Canuto finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Canuto is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Hussain is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Hussain makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hussain. Canuto drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hussain looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hussain looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hussain! Canuto tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hussain gets to mount! Canuto was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Hussain tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Canuto is trying to escape the mount.
Canuto looks gassed! Hussain stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Hussain jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Canuto on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Canuto takes a shot right to the bread basket. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hussain steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Canuto is out on his feet! Hussain sets himself and nearly takes Canuto's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Saddam Hussain! Saddam Hussain retains his bantamweight title!
