Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Barsanti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phoenix comes to the cage accompanied by Phoenix. Barsanti has chosen Bawitdaba as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Barsanti!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barsanti gets caught flat footed, as Phoenix shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Phoenix in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Phoenix trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Barsanti is trying to keep Phoenix in close.

Barsanti is working an open guard so Phoenix takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Barsanti misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

It looks like Paul Phoenix has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Phoenix decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barsanti is defending against the submission attempts here by Phoenix.

Phoenix thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Barsanti's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barsanti can do anything to dispel that myth.
Phoenix is looking to take a break and control but Barsanti is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Barsanti lands a left and a right that sends Phoenix crashing to the canvas! Barsanti dives into mount looking to finish!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Barsanti tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Barsanti dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Barsanti uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Phoenix has time to react.


Paul Phoenix's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Barsanti misses with a wild body shot.
Barsanti connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Phoenix's hands.
Phoenix takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Barsanti shoots in and bounces Phoenix off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Paul Phoenix overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Phoenix has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Phoenix lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
