PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Ariitaia (ranked 5492 p4p, 23623 weight class) and Bsmds Nasmfus (ranked 578 p4p, 681 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ariitaia jabs Nasmfus to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Ariitaia misses with a body shot.
We've been told by Ariitaia's head coaches at Punch Out Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Ariitaia gets tackled into the cage by Nasmfus. Nasmfus maintains the clinch.
Nasmfus is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Ariitaia is defending well.
Ariitaia will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Nasmfus up against the cage.
Nasmfus drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ariitaia gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Nasmfus is looking for a takedown.
Gordon Ariitaia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bsmds Nasmfus.
Ariitaia content to slow the pace in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ariitaia lands a shoulder strike.
Nasmfus stalls.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Ariitaia swings wildly with an uppercut but Nasmfus uses good head movement to avoid it.
Nasmfus is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Ariitaia tries a body shot but Nasmfus blocks it.
Ariitaia can't find room to land a body shot as Nasmfus controls the action.

Nasmfus pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ariitaia pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ariitaia lands with a shot to the body.

Nasmfus is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ariitaia lands a nice shot to the body.
Ariitaia cracks a nice hook into Nasmfus's ribs.
Nasmfus takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Ariitaia moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nasmfus looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ariitaia connects with a crisp jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ariitaia fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Nasmfus with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Ariitaia to score with a decent uppercut.

It looks like Bsmds Nasmfus has been cut.

Nasmfus doesn't manage to clinch there - Ariitaia circles away.
Nasmfus tries to close the distance and clinch but Ariitaia swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Nasmfus moves into the clinch successfully.
Nasmfus's coach down at Roosters Coop was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Nasmfus's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Nasmfus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nasmfus takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Nasmfus is rocked!
Ariitaia scores with a crisp jab that stopped Nasmfus in his tracks.
Nasmfus is still on wobbly legs! Can Ariitaia finish him?
Nasmfus shoots for a double leg takedown but Ariitaia sprawls well. He's pushed Nasmfus's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ariitaia circles away before darting back in with a big straight right hand. It connects beautifully and sends Nasmfus tumbling to the canvas! He's out cold! Ariitaia wins by KO!

In his post fight interview, Gordon Ariitaia started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
