PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Staf Copppens (ranked 4694 p4p, 4815 weight class) and Eduardo Moran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Moran has chosen Ultima Generation as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Eduardo Moran!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Copppens has managed to clinch.
Copppens has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Moran after a bit of a struggle.

Copppens pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Moran throws a low kick, looking for Copppens's leg but Copppens calmly moves out of range.
Copppens throws a nice looking combination but Moran bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Copppens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Moran sprawls well. Moran wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Copppens gets slowly back to his feet.
Moran lands with a cross.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moran lands a nice shot to the body.

Moran moves into the clinch successfully.
Moran gets underhooks to prevent Copppens's takedown attempt.

Copppens tries to land a knee to the head but Moran blocks with his arms.

Moran jumps guard and drags Copppens to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Copppens perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Copppens is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Poor strikes thrown by Copppens there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Copppens could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Moran tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Copppens is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Moran to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Moran shrugs it off.

Copppens cracks Moran with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Copppens sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Moran wants to hold on but Copppens pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Copppens has hold of Moran's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Moran manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Copppens wants to finish this one by submission but Moran is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Copppens.

Copppens is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Moran is surviving well by controlling Copppens's body position as best he can.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Moran really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Copppens. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Moran is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Moran stuffs the takedown attempt from Copppens. Copppens gets slowly back to his feet.
Moran dives in for a single leg takedown but Copppens sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Copppens has managed to clinch.

Copppens's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Moran looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
It looked like Copppens was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Moran misses with a double jab.
Copppens displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Moran.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Copppens wants to sweep here but Moran controlling him for the moment.

Moran stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Copppens swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Copppens has his foot on Moran's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Moran works his way back into a safe position though.

Copppens had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Moran defends it easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Copppens keeping moving, preventing Moran from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Copppens stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Copppens wants it to stay on the feet.
Staf Copppens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eduardo Moran.

Moran leaves Copppens with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Copppens slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Moran tries to roll over but Copppens keeps him under control.
Copppens moves nicely into side control.

Copppens works to advance to full mount. Moran defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Copppens will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Copppens enables Moran to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Copppens manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Moran doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Moran wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Moran dives in and grabs Copppens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Copppens pushes down on Moran's head and hops out.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Copppens goes for a double leg but Moran avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Moran continues to drive forward.

Copppens is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Copppens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Moran doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Moran manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Copppens holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Copppens has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Moran avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
