Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ross Nyland (ranked 25480 p4p, 25189 weight class) and Andy Shearer (ranked 709 p4p, 730 weight class). Shearer has chosen Coming Home Newcastle as his entrance music. Andy Shearer is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ross Nyland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andy Shearer!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nyland looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Shearer tries to kick Nyland off in order to stand up. Nyland Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nyland is trying to get an arm triangle but Shearer is defending well.
Nyland is staying tight to Shearer's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Nyland decides to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nyland drives through and clinches with Shearer against the cage.

and Shearer takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shearer looks to clinch
and Nyland counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nyland looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nyland closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shearer's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nyland controls from within his opponent's guard.
Nyland stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shearer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fight stays on the outside here - Shearer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nyland went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Shearer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A telegraphed right hand from Shearer misses the target.
Nyland tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Shearer manages to circle out of the way.
Nyland closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shearer quickly recovers to half guard.

The referee asks Nyland politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Nyland prefers to stall for the moment though.
Nyland has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Shearer is breathing heavily.

Nyland throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Shearer was covering up waiting for the punch and Nyland finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Shearer manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Nyland tries to pull guard but Shearer forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

We've been told by Nyland's head coaches at whitey's gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Nyland avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Shearer pushes Nyland up against the cage in a clinch.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Nyland.
Nyland tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Shearer just stands there and leans against the cage.
Shearer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Nyland fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Shearer looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Nyland darts in and clinches Shearer up against the cage.
Nyland goes for a takedown attempt but Shearer pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Shearer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nyland paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nyland appears to be looking for a big counter.
Shearer doesn't manage to clinch there - Nyland circles away.

Nyland pulls Shearer in close to prevent any damage.
Nyland is looking to cinch up a triangle. Shearer throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Nyland's body to avoid the submission. Nyland has instead reached around Shearer's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Nyland arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
