This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 18 losses; Pavel Savkov! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 26 wins and 19 losses; Esteban Mondragon!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Mondragon tries to close the distance and clinch but Savkov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Savkov gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mondragon to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Savkov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mondragon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mondragon has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at London MMA Club. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Mondragon is looking to advance position but Savkov won't allow it.
Mondragon uses his free foot to push down on Savkov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Savkov.

Mondragon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Savkov bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mondragon pulls Savkov in close to his closed guard and prevents Savkov from doing any damage or advancing position.
Savkov has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Savkov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mondragon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mondragon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mondragon's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Savkov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mondragon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mondragon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Savkov is looking for a sweep.
Mondragon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Savkov keeps working.

Savkov tries to bench press Mondragon off him but Mondragon keeps the position.

Savkov wants to control but Mondragon postures up.
Mondragon laying and praying for a moment but Savkov takes advantage and regains half guard.
Still in half guard, Mondragon seems content to control.

Let's hope that Mondragon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mondragon in particular looking to stall.

Mondragon trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Mondragon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
