This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 0 losses; Lou Gotch! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 8 losses; Aleksander Kazimierz! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Gotch tries to clinch but Kazimierz is having none of it. Gotch tries to clinch up but Kazimierz circles away and keeps his distance. The fight stays on the outside here - Gotch looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kazimierz has Gotch up against the cage in a clinch.
Gotch manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Gotch working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kazimierz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kazimierz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Kazimierz trying to control but Gotch is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kazimierz slips nicely into half guard. Kazimierz told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Gotch has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Kazimierz is trying to break free.
Gotch is not going to allow Kazimierz to sit and survive in this position. Gotch working for the choke. Gotch looking to break Kazimierz's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Kazimierz remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Gotch will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Kazimierz rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Gotch wants to control from the top but Kazimierz keeps moving. Kazimierz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gotch controls the pace. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kazimierz's guard. Gotch is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kazimierz defends it well. Gotch is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Kazimierz is controlling Gotch's trapped leg to prevent Gotch from advancing to side control. Kazimierz trying to hold on to Gotch's head to control him but Gotch postures up.

Kazimierz is looking to control Gotch's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kazimierz avoid being mounted? Gotch is working for a kimura here but Kazimierz manages to reverse the position and he's now in Gotch's guard.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gotch wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kazimierz is now in half guard.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Kazimierz wants to control but Gotch is keeping him busy. Gotch makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gotch. Kazimierz tries to free his leg and advance position but Gotch is retaining full guard. Kazimierz is pushing down on Gotch's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gotch is fighting to maintain full guard but Kazimierz has managed to sneak the leg through. Gotch gets full guard. Kazimierz works a leg free and moves into half guard. Kazimierz wants to control but Gotch is keeping him busy. Gotch has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kazimierz is working away from the top position though. Gotch wants to improve his position but Kazimierz is controlling well.

Kazimierz trying to control the position but Gotch is working away. Gotch manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kazimierz's best efforts.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Gotch is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gotch is working hard here to advance position. Kazimierz is taking a breather. Gotch says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Kazimierz trying to pass the guard but Gotch defending well. Gotch trying to control but Kazimierz is working from the bottom. Gotch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kazimierz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Gotch content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Kazimierz has locked up a guillotine! Kazimierz's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Gotch is holding on here and Kazimierz must be using up a lot of energy. Gotch has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Kazimierz gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

A very excited looking Aleksander Kazimierz rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed. |
