PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shaun Brownie (ranked 2492 p4p, 2392 weight class) and Keith Thurman (ranked 331 p4p, 323 weight class). Thurman has chosen DMX lord give me a sign as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brownie tests Thurman 's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Brownie closes the distance and clinches.
Knees to the body from Brownie.
Thurman wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Thurman is trying to force a seperation but Brownie has the dominant position.
Thurman wants to get back to striking at distance but Brownie won't allow it.

Brownie has clasped his hands together around Thurman 's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Brownie throws an elbow but Thurman slips to the side and avoids it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brownie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thurman keeps working.
Thurman tries to buck Brownie off but Brownie is having none of it.

Thurman wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Thurman wants to control but Brownie postures up.
Thurman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Brownie lands with a punch from half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brownie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Brownie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Brownie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thurman doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brownie.
Thurman is not content to let Brownie control the position.
Thurman felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brownie working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Thurman holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Brownie passes to full mount!
Brownie scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Thurman ?
Brownie pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Thurman is rocked!
Brownie postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Thurman in real trouble here! The ref calls for Thurman to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

After the fight, Shaun Brownie was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
