Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Ceni (ranked 4328 p4p, 4301 weight class) and Will Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Will Gates will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Ceni! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Will Gates! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Topper Green and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ceni with a poor takedown and Gates counters with an inside leg kick. Gates gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Gates is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Gates is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ceni defends well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gates pulls Ceni in close to his closed guard and prevents Ceni from doing any damage or advancing position. Gates being controlled here, momentarily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ceni pushing down on Gates's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gates wants to get back to his feet. Gates trying to control here.
Gates has his hands clasped together around Ceni's back. He's all about the action. Ceni controlling the action here. Ceni is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gates doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ceni.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Gates taking some punishment here, with Ceni in his half guard. Ceni is nestled in close to Gates, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Gates has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ceni is working away from the top position though. Ceni sitting and controlling from the half guard. Gates has hold of Ceni's hands but Ceni slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ceni sitting and controlling from the half guard. Ceni is working for a submission of some sort.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Ceni is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Gates tries to roll over but Ceni keeps him under control. Ceni is thwarting Gates's attempts to control the position. Ceni is pressing down on Gates's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gates is holding on for now. Ceni is thwarting Gates's attempts to control the position. Ceni with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ceni working the head and body with strikes. Ceni wants to control but Gates is keeping him busy. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Ceni dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ceni falls off balance throwing a combination
and Gates counters with a stiff right hand. Ceni with a lazy takedown attempt and Gates counters with a nice uppercut. Ceni tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gates defends well and Ceni ends up having to push Gates into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Ceni is trying to pull guard but Gates turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Ceni. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ceni is looking to break free of the clinch but Gates has double underhooks. Gates is working Ceni over against the cage. Ceni jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gates walks away with a smile on his face. Ceni gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Ceni tries for a takedown but Gates sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Gates throws a big counter head kick but Ceni avoids it with no problem. Gates goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Ceni dives in and grabs Gates's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gates pushes down on Ceni's head and hops out. Ceni shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ceni trying to control but Gates is working from the bottom. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gates is on top in guard.

Gates must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gates missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Gates wants to pass the guard but Ceni is keeping the position. Ceni controlling Gates's posture. Gates wants to control from the top but Ceni keeps moving. Gates wants to get up but he can't break Ceni's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Ceni is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ceni is pulling down on Gates's head to control his posture. Gates has gone for a leg lock! Ceni slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gates's guard.
Mark Ceni overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ceni makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Ceni distracts Gates with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ceni content to stall in guard here. Ceni won't allow Gates to sweep him here. Ceni engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Gates looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ceni postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Ceni not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ceni is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Ceni passes Gates's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Ceni is trying to control. Gates wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ceni is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gates can do to turn this around? Ceni looks to score some points with some ground and pound. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Will Gates will probably get the nod - 10:9. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Ceni feints and as Gates raises his hands in defense, Ceni changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Ceni wants to control from the top but Gates keeps moving. Ceni sitting in guard, not really doing much. Gates keeping moving, preventing Ceni from controlling successfully. Ceni chips away with some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ceni stays in close to Gates's body and controls the position. Gates working a defensive guard but Ceni passes into half guard.

Gates is rocked! The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gates is still in real trouble! Can Ceni finish him? Ceni lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Gates quite badly. Gates pulls Ceni in close trying to recover. Ceni postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Gates on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Gates doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Ceni!
