PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Carter (ranked 4574 p4p, 4575 weight class) and Larry Wussel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eric Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Larry Wussel!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter goes for a double leg but Wussel avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Wussel continues to drive forward.
Wussel lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Wussel gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carter.

Carter drags the fight down to the ground.
Wussel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Carter has control of Wussel's left arm, preventing Wussel from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wussel looking to sit in guard and control but Carter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Carter slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A lull in the action here as Carter stalls from top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carter misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Carter tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Carter is trying to get an arm triangle but Wussel is defending well.
The ground and pound from Carter seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Carter is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wussel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Carter thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Carter goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Wussel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Carter but great work by Wussel.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Carter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wussel pinned against the cage. Wussel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Carter looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Carter or perhaps it was just good defense by Wussel, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wussel lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carter circles away quickly and effectively.
Carter dodges the punch combination from Wussel.
A quick step to the side and Carter tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
A right-left combo lands from Wussel.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wussel as he jumps to the side.

Wussel swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Carter drops down looking for a counter takedown but Wussel sprawls and moves away.

Wussel engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Wussel wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Some wild striking there from Wussel.

Carter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Carter sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Wussel is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Wussel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Carter tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Carter has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carter being controlled here, momentarily.
Wussel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wussel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wussel controls the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter pulls Wussel in close to prevent any damage.
Wussel sitting in guard, not really doing much.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Larry Wussel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Wussel misses with a few strikes there.
Carter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wussel avoids it really well and circles away.
Carter misses with a takedown attempt - Wussel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Wussel unleashes a big counter combination but Carter bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Wussel throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Wussel tries to bum rush Carter with a series of wild strikes but Carter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Wussel looks to land a left hand but Carter moved out of range nicely.
