And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jamil Hurst!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Anthony Taglia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holton Jr missing with a left hand there. Hurst was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Holton Jr looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Holton Jr throws a looping overhand right but Hurst ducks down to avoid it.
Holton Jr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hurst.
Holton Jr misses with a straight right.
Hurst tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Holton Jr was well out of range. Poor timing from Hurst.
Hurst shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Holton Jr sprawls well. Holton Jr wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hurst gets slowly back to his feet.
Hurst has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Jamil Hurst seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hurst tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Holton Jr was well out of range. Poor timing from Hurst.
Holton Jr takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Hurst swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Nice defenses there by Hurst.
Hurst ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

It looks like Jamil Hurst has been cut.

Holton Jr blocks a jab.
Hurst lands a right hook to the body.
Holton Jr misses the shot to the body.
Holton Jr with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Hurst to score with a decent uppercut.
Holton Jr just misses with a punch to the body.
Hurst throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Holton Jr stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hurst throws a jab but it's blocked by Holton Jr.
Holton Jr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hurst drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Holton Jr defends it well.
Good shot there by Hurst.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Holton Jr throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hurst comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Hurst goes for a double leg but Holton Jr avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Holton Jr continues to drive forward.
Holton Jr connects with a jab.
Holton Jr scores with a jab. Hurst acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Hurst throws a sloppy body shot
and Holton Jr rattles Hurst with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Hurst tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Holton Jr dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Hurst stiff and motionless on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). DeShaun Holton Jr!
DeShaun Holton Jr retains his middleweight title!
An out of breath DeShaun Holton Jr thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
